Can you come up with a new business idea and build new customers using the sense of smell?
Common Scents, a new entry on the Small Business Trends blog asks that question after discussing a few new business concepts based on the sense of smell.
Smells can help you with your existing customer base. One of the simple things we would do when I worked at a store that sold appliances was to put popcorn into a microwave and cook it during our busier days. The additional sales of microwaves more than made up for the cost of the popcorn.
In any environment pleasant smells will help your store. One thing to keep in mind is to make sure the smells are a pleasant background but not overpowering. Think about what you can do in your own store to create a pleasant smell to increase your business.
