Reference checks

Are you making employee reference check mistakes?

The Solo Accountant Blog describes the five biggest mistakes that businesses make when it comes to reference checks.

The biggest mistake listed is not doing any reference check at all. This is something that no one should be admitting to. Just because a person can interview well does not mean they are the best employee.

I have worked for companies that did good reference checks and I ones that did no reference checks, and guess which ones had the lowest turnover and the lowest rate of having to fire employees? While getting reference checks is not the curelinks all for employee problems, it can reduce the number of problems you have in the long run.

In addition I know it takes time to do them and some companies including one of the major office supply stores requires you to call a 900-number in order to get any reference checks.

Reference checks are an important part of doing business. Look at the five mistakes and make sure you are not making those in your business.
