Press Releases

The purpose of a press release is to get the attention of a reporter so that they will do a story about your business.
However, when you do a press release you need to make sure you do not make any of the fatal mistakes talked about by the Start up Spark blog.
The best way to get your press release noticed is to insure that you have done everything right. There is hundreds of thousands of press releases out in circulation so to make sure that yours looks the best it can be and gives the information necessary in clear and concise terms.
Also be sure to send your press releases to the right people. There is also websites that are a listing service for press releases but you need to investigate to insure you do not publish your press release on one that is known for being the site of "frivolous" press releases.
The best way to get started with press releases is to get them to your local newspapers. If you have a business journal in your area they are an outstanding source however keep in mind that some business journals (including my local one) will only publish if you are paying them.
Press Releases is also an outstanding opportunity to outsource. There are probably people in your area experience with doing them so try to find a good person to do them for you. However, be sure to get references, examples of the press releases, and examples of were something is come from those press releases. After all, if they are sending out a thousand press releases and getting nothing out of it they are probably not the person for you.
Press releases are an important marketing tool for your business, make sure they are done right and sent to the right people.
