Computers

Remember the promise of the paperless society that computers were to usher in?

Well as we all know that paperless society has not happened. But by using the internet we can do things to reduce the amount of paperwork we have in our file cabinets.
Once again Laura from the Bootstrapper blog has a great entry that can help you reduce the amount of paper sitting on the desk.
She has listed 25 online filing systems that you can use to store files online.
Before transferring files to any of these networks I would suggest talking to people you know to see if they are using these systems to see how safe they appear to be, how easy are they to use, and what their overall thoughts are on them. Another thing to do before deciding on the one for you will be to try all of them out for yourself. Make sure you can easily use it otherwise you will not use it for long.
While there are some files you will not want to transfer, I would recommend you create backups of important documents such as tax forms so that if something happens to the paper ones, you still have something to fall back on.
Get rid of the pile of papers and consider an online file system.

I scanned all my papers using 42Tags which allow categorizing papers with tags.
All the data is kept in one folder so backuping is easy. And if I would like to search I just search by one of the tags.
Online backup will not soon be a primary backup plan. I suggest backuping online once a month or so because of the hassle involved.
