The thought of needed the lawyer or dealing with the legal process is enough to make many small business owners have heartburn.

The first tip is a tricky one and that says if you don't need a lawyer, keep one out of the picture. Personally I would be very careful with this one. When I started my business I did all the paperwork myself but I am comfortable doing that kind of paperwork and I was not intimidated by it. However if you are not comfortable doing some things on your own such as filing incorporation paperwork, or other legal matters make sure you get the proper legal help.

Another one of the tips is to educate your self in legal matters. I have mentioned this before when it comes to accounting, even if you have a professional that you use, you need to keep your self educated on legal matters.

Finally, remember to keep very accurate records on all activities of the business especially for legal and accounting matters. Also, if you have an uncluttered office you will have a much easier time finding those important records.
