Hiring a Bookkeeper

We have talked previously about hiring bookkeepers.

Hiring a Bookkeeper

Here is a great blog entry from The Jordan Result for Small Business Success on what to look for when hiring a bookkeeper.

Jordan who runs the blog goes into the importance of a degree, certification of bookkeepers, experience, character and personality. She gives good examples of what you should be looking for especially in character and personality.

One thing she does not go into is a background check. Today background checks are so critically important. While they will not keep you from being stolen from, they can protect you from hiring someone that has a criminal past. Not only do you need to protect yourself from this person you also need to protect yourself against anything this person may do to someone else.

Also remember to trust your instinct. If something does not feel right, make sure you find out why before you make a very critical decision.
