SCORE works with the small business administration and has retired executives volunteer to help small businesses. From the New York Times comes the article: Starting a Small Business which talks about what SCORE is and what it is designed to do.

Starting out it is important to find good mentors to help you along and help you in areas that you may be lacking. SCORE is designed to give that help and get you started from writing a business plan to how to approach customers.
