Clean your desktop...

First on the list is keeping it tidy. While this may seem obvious for some, there are those of us like me who have a hard time keeping our desk clean. After many hours of watching Clean Sweep and reading Peter Walsh's book I am currently working to purge and make my office look much better.
In my last entry I talked about going paperless and this would be one way to clean off that desktop.
You will also want to keep your virtual desktop clean meaning your computer. Windows has an option to clean up your desktop that will eliminate icons you don't use often and put them in a folder.
Also, I am one of those people who collect "programs". I will see a program that might work for me and I will try it out. If it doesn't work or I find I never use it, I will wait months before eliminating it from the system. I recommend cleaning up your computer of unused programs every 3 or so months.
Make sure that everything you need is filed properly and it in order so you can find it very easily. Nothing is more frustrating than needing some piece of paper and you have to go through millions of files to find the right piece of paper. Of course the more you go paperless, the easier this will become.
If you're like me and find yourself challenged in this area get one of the many excellent books that are out there on organization. Once you have it, be sure to read it and put it's recommendations to use.
