Advisors...

I have mentioned before how important it is for you to have a good group of advisors in order to help you with your business. These people will not be running your business or telling you what to do, they will be there for you to help you with problems and be your sounding board when you have something you need to work out.
The first part is to know what kind of help you need. Do you need help in marketing? Management? Human Resources? Financial? Logistics? Finding wholesalers
? First of all figure out what your strengths and weaknesses are and find advisors that are strong in your weak areas. However, you should also have advisors that are strong in your areas in order to give you a different prospective on how you are operating.
Next is finding the right people. After figuring out what areas you need help in find people who are strong in those areas. Through networking and your online presence you should be able to find the right people for the job. Make sure that they are willing to ask you the tough questions and make sure that you are willing to listen to what they have to say.
The next couple of points are pretty self explanatory and that is to make communication easy and to be prepared when you meet with your advisors.
Finally you have to expect tough love. You may not always like what these people have to say but remember they are there to help you so be willing to listen even when it is not easy.
Remember the more people who you can depend on for advise, the better prepared you are to make your business a success.
