The Positivity Blog has an excellent entry talking about the 7 keys to a smashing success as told by j.c. penney.

The second item is something that I recommend to all small business owners as one of the best tools in your arsenal and that is "Give more than is expected".
In today's world that is getting easier and easier as customers service has is becoming a joke a many businesses across the spectrum. If you can wow your customers with better than expected then you will be setting yourself apart from the competitors.
Think about the last time you were wowed with great service, what made it stand apart? For me it was when I stayed at the Townplace Suites in the Denver Tech Center in September of last year. The staff was the finest I have encountered in my many lodging stays and I always recommend them to people traveling in the area.
Make sure your customers are blown away and they too will recommend you to their friends and family.
